Pictures at Last!

Okay, so you can see, I'm figuring out how this might work... A few pictures I took the first weekend I was here...

First, my house. I wish I had taken this from the side so that you could see some of the lovely gardening that Liz does. We have great flowers with some veggies kind of mixed in there. The two windows on the top right are where my room is.
This next picture is of my room. Lots of windows, some flowers that were there to welcome me when I arrived. The carpet is very green, but I love it. Familiar quilt and stuff, so like home already. And this last picture is of the falls where I spent part of a day the weekend I arrived. Minnesota is known for its lakes, so I thought I might as well take advantange while the weather was warm. I thought the weather would be a bit warmer a bit longer than seems to be the case here, but so far the sun is shining and I am plenty warm.

Last night was my first class: "Two Centuries of Feminist Theological Creativity" (or something like that). It was interesting to hear from the women who have maybe felt more restricted in various parts of life because of being a woman. Not only did I not live before or through Vatican II, but I was in the first class of girl altar servers at my grade school. In terms of education and ministry, I don't feel like there is anything I can't do because I am a woman, which is not the experience of many of the women in my class. Much of it will be an integration of, what is for me, history adding to that the piece on what comes next. I think there will be lots to learn.

Well, I'd better get some lunch so I can get to some real work.

Thank God for the sun!

  1. Looks like a great house and room! You'll have a few more warm days to enjoy beautiful scenes such as your waterfall. Your "take" on what a woman can do is interesting since your own history is so much shorter than many of us.... That's why I love those internet pieces that say: "Kids graduating from high school this year have never known...." Enjoy your time in St. Paul and surroundings.

  4. Okay, just to clarify. Somehow I managed to post my response twice. So I tried to erase the second post, only to find there is a message - in dutch on my computer - that probably says something ominous about a message being deleted. Nothing so sinister - just a slow internet connection, so I hit post twice. Sorry...
    Peace,
    Amy

  7. Beautiful pictures!

My own mother is struggling with "the abuses of the Church" right now, and the bitterness can be scary to see. I think with certain criticized practices of the Church, we need to be able to distinguish whether that practice is distinctly the church's, or if it grew from those places where society/culture influences Church. Not saying we excuse what's wrong, just that we don't give up on Catholicism as though it is unalterably corrupt (a viewpoint all too common among certain Feminist theologians).

  9. Sarah,
Thanks for sharing your new beginnings with us! Another part of the ongoing journey...YES!

Hope you had a great birthday. I am a little belated in my greetings. I knew it was the 16th but, for some reason, thought it was next Sunday! Hope it was blessed in every way and that the blessings continue throughout the year!

  10. I found you on sisterbloggers and wanted to send greetings from Erie, PA. May God bless you on your journey. I keep trying to put togehter if I might have met you ages ago when I was on an SSJ discernment retreat in Philly.

  12. Dear Sarah,

I've really enjoyed reading about your experiences, classes and the pictures your have shown. You look happy. May it continue. I pray daily for you to grow deeper into God.

This weekend Jean Paul and I spent the weekend at White Violed Farm with PB and MO. It was a great weekend. Jean and I were in the Upper Peninsula of MI for a number of years so it was good to visit again.

    Love,
    Monica Kleffner, CSJ
