Novitiate Ceremony Saturday August 5

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet officially received Sarah Heger as a novice in a ceremony on Saturday evening in the motherhouse chapel. It was an occasion of joy and celebration for the community and an important step in Sarah's vocational journey.

Five of us will make up the Novitiate Community which will live at the motherhouse in St. Louis. Pat Quinn was the first to move in, and will serve as novice director. Pat had been serving in pastoral ministry in southwestern Missouri. Paula Michaud and Amy Hereford moved in at the end of July. Paula spent the last 23 years in Tuscon, AZ, most recently serving in the medical library of St. Joseph's Hospital. Amy has lived in another house in St. Louis for the past several years, and ministers as an attorney and consultant for Religious Orders and Nonprofit Organizations. Clare Spaeth was the next to move in. She too has been living in another house in St. Louis, and she ministers in hospice care with SSM. Sarah was the last to move in. She joined us after her ceremony on Saturday.

On Sunday, August 6, about 30 members of Sarah's family, gathered for a family reunion, enjoyed a tour of the motherhouse. Arriving in tee-shirts specially printed for the occasion by Sarah and her mother, the lively group toured the facility then joined the novitiate community in its third floor living area for a visit and light refreshments. The younger members of the group enjoyed collecting the signatures of family members and of the sisters on their tee-shirts.

  5. Hi Sarah - Just ran accross your blog. I was taught by the CSJ's in Fresno in the 1950's. Hated most of it (I was a bad boy) but now realize how it formed so much of my character. Good luck as you grow in your vocation.
